RULES FOR ALL BURNING IN WALLA WALLA COUNTY:

1. Only dry natural vegetation can be burned. This means: No garbage, dead animals, asphalt, petroleum products, paints, rubber plastic, treated wood, paper, cardboard, construction/demolition, debris, wire, metal or insulation can be burned. Nothing can be burned that has been chemically treated.

2. A responsible person at least 18 years of age must be present and in control of the burn at all times. This fire monitor must have a shovel, hoe, or rake AND, charged hose or other water source significant to control the burn.

3. Even if you are following all the laws applicable to burning, if your fire creates a safety hazard and/or bothers your neighbors it must be extinguished immediately.

4. Burn barrels are ILLEGAL in the State of Washington.

RULES FOR RESIDENTIAL BURNING:

1. Residential outdoor burning is prohibited within the Urban Growth Area (UGA).

2. Residential outdoor burn piles are limited to four feet in diameter and three feet high. Only ONE pile may be burned at a time. Each pile must be thoroughly extinguished before a new pile can be burned.

3. Residential outdoor burn piles must be placed 50 feet away from anything combustible AND must be placed 500 feet away from a forest slash pile.

4. A valid Residential Burn Permit must be on site during all burning.

5. You may not burn on land that you do not own without written permission from the owner. Allowable burn times will be determined and announced between 8 and 10 am each business day.
